Judge applauds the collapse of the nuclear family

The collapse of the nuclear family should be welcomed and applauded, Britain’s most senior Family Judge has said.

Sir James Munby, President of the High Court’s Family Division, said in a recent speech at Liverpool University that the modern family was ‘complex’ and took ‘an almost infinite variety of forms’.

His comments reflect the reality of the modern family and the fact that family law needed to adapt itself to these realities.  He called the existing pace of change ‘maddeningly slow’.

At AWB Charlesworth Solicitors, we are aware of the challenges and issues facing the modern family and provide advice to those in all types of relationship – those who live together as couples, married or not, those with partners of the same sex, grandparents caring for grandchildren, step-parents etc.

Our Family Law pages are full of useful information, covering a range of relationship issues. To view these pages, click here.
