Halifax recently released data on house price movements in 2022-23. Bradford saw house prices increase by 8.5%, second in the list after Yorkshire neighbours, Huddersfield at 8.7% growth. People are even beginning to talk about Yorkshire’s ‘textile corridor’.
The ONS on the other hand, has reported data stating that the average house in the UK is worth £288,000, £3,000 lower than 12 months ago. House prices decreased in England by 1.4%, in Wales by 3% but increased in Scotland by a slender 0.2%.
So what’s generating this boom in Bradford? Here’s our thoughts:
Leeds
The jobs site Adzuna said last month that the highest advertised salaries outside London were in Leeds. Want to work in Leeds, but don’t fancy Leeds property prices? Try Bradford for great value for money.
Rural location
Bradford is famous for its rural surroundings. Bronte country, Ilkley Moor, Yorkshire Dales. It’s all on the doorstep and post-pandemic, rural living has become hugely popular.
Bradford on the up?
Bradford City of Culture, Bradford Live, Bradford Literature Festival, Bradford University doing world-beating things with AI. Bradford is in the news for all the right reasons!
Bradford on film
From Peaky Blinders to Emily, Downton Abbey to Gentleman Jack, the film industry has done an amazing job of showcasing the area’s beautiful architecture and landscapes.
Bradford HotSpots
Think Ilkley. Think Saltaire. There are certainly some jewels in the BD postcode’s crown, where higher house prices dominate.
House price growth isn’t always good news. It can price out young people. But for an area that struggled with its post-industrial legacy, it feels like a good news story for Bradford. We hope that this confidence continues.
